What Is the Jazz Jam?
The Jazz Jam is inspired by the Gene Harris jazz jams held in the 1980s. Our jam is led by top jazz talent in the Valley, Nick Monteiro (keys), Chris Ammirati (Bass) and Mat Marucci (Drums). Jazz musicians of all backgrounds, ages and levels come together to play and have fun. Performance pressure is kept low, but whether you are there to listen or play, there's lots to learn from the pros!
Each session features:
• A song or two from the pros at the beginning
• A sign up to call a tune and join the jam
• Supportive guidance from experienced jazz musicians
• Opportunities to learn from others and expand your comfort zone
• A welcoming, sober, all-ages environment aligned with the Boise Hive’s mission
Our focus is on community over perfection. If you’ve ever wanted to try a jazz jam but felt intimidated, this is the place for you.
Why we Jam!
The Boise Hive exists to support musicians through creativity, community, and mental wellness. Group music-making can be a powerful outlet — it builds confidence, reduces stress, and fosters meaningful connection.
The Jazz Jam is built to:
• Give area jazz musicians a stage to hone their playing, cue-taking and listening skills
• Help players develop improvisation and listening skills
• Strengthen the local music community
• Provide an accessible, judgment-free gathering space
If you’ve been looking for a low-pressure jam where you can play jazz, learn something new, and meet other musicians, the Boise Hive Jazz Jam is for you. Grab your gear, invite a friend, and come be part of something special.
See you on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month!
