Learn Audio Mixing

Get behind the mixing console with a variety of prerecorded and sampled music tracks that provide a wide range of projects for your hands-on learning at the Boise Hive. Advanced techniques such as mixing automation, bussing, drum replacement, pitch correction and noise/peak elimination is also included. Our Audio Engineer will demonstrate several popular programs to show differences but will primarily mix in one DAW (digital audio workstation). Mixing projects assigned to do at home can be done in any DAW. Get links to free software. Editing Techniques

Discover editing to create a seamless sound that can be mastered professionally. Learn how to prepare for mixing that can be used in any software program and the optimal mixing environment. Get links to free software. See similarities to software and/or hardware that students may already own and apply techniques learned at home.

Mixing

Find out the six basic elements of a mix, how to use processors like equalizers, compressors, gates and effects plugins during mixing to create an ultimate soundfield, usage of proper dynamics and create a song where all instruments can be heard.

Mastering

Learn techniques for post production to create music levels up to industry standard for the genre you are working in. Also how to use mastering services effectively by preparing your tracks with suggested final export settings for online and physical delivery mediums.

Present Your Work

Present your mixed recording projects with peers for constructive feedback and share your work.
